Epilogue Part 2

As Leticia furrowed her brow in suspicion, her personal maid rushed toward her, holding a letter sealed with the Orlesian family’s wax seal. Leticia took it from her, then quickly dismissed the maid.

Gilbert hated having their private moments interrupted. The fact that the maid had come with the letter despite knowing this must have meant it was something urgent.

She hurriedly opened the letter and read its contents.

"So, what did the letter say?"

"It says there's no problem."

"Hehe, I knew it."

 

Gilbert pulled a chair over and set it beside Leticia. He sat down lazily, slouching across the table with a mischievous smile on his face.

"I don’t have much trust in myself, so making a big public move would be pointless. But I’m skilled at strategic games. If I make my moves carefully, one step at a time, checkmate will be easy. Without even realizing it, everyone will dance in the palm of my hand. It’s a peaceful resolution, right?"

 

"Just as expected from Gilbert-sama. I knew you were intelligent, but this is beyond what I imagined."

"I don’t want even a second of my time with you to be interrupted. I’d do anything for that. You can praise me more, you know?"

"Well done, well done. You’re such a good boy, Gilbert-sama!"

 

Since Leticia and Gilbert had become a married couple, there were those who feared Gilbert as the cursed child and had declared the Orlesian family as their enemies.

Leticia's father was no fool, but even the Orlesian family, which had a wealth of capable individuals, had fallen victim to a minor crack that spiraled into a scandal.

It must have been a complete surprise to the involved parties. The letter she had initially received had traces of their shock.

Their opponent was sharp-minded... but it seemed that Gilbert was far superior in this case. Truly, Leticia thought, her husband was a force to be reckoned with as she lovingly stroked his head.

"Ah… I could melt from happiness."

"Hey, hey, are you trying to turn me into a widower?"

 

"...Leticia, will you stay with me forever? You’re not getting tired of me, are you?"

"Who else could make you happy besides me? And besides, your cooking is absolutely delicious. I could never be satisfied by anyone else. I can't leave you, physically or emotionally."

"Ah, so you’ve been captured by my stomach, huh? I’m glad I’ve been perfecting my cooking skills without compromise."

Gilbert took Leticia’s hand and brought it to his cheek, rubbing against it affectionately.

"If you’d allow it, I’d like to be the one who prepares all your meals from now on. A person’s body is always changing, little by little. Skin, blood, muscles, bones—everything about you will be made from the food I prepare. I’ll always be by your side."

 

"Hehe, you’re really adorable, my husband. As for whether I’ll listen to everything you say, that depends on the situation, but I’ll try my best. I, too, am ready to use all my strength to protect you."

With a snap of her fingers, Leticia summoned an ice dragon from the ground. It flew up to swallow a light orb that had shot at them from a distance. The orb had apparently been infused with a great deal of magic.

 

The ice dragon, its stomach now swollen, gave a satisfied laugh before vanishing with a burst of ice.

"How reckless. To resort to force after failing with a sneaky approach. They’ve hired a skilled mage. The orb that disappeared inside the dragon was powerful enough to destroy this entire garden. Only a few can control magic with this level of precision."

Leticia chuckled softly to herself.

"To think anyone would try to attack while I’m here. How naive! I swear, Gilbert-sama, I will protect you for the rest of my life!"

 

"Leticia..."

"So don’t worry. Don’t be afraid. I’ll always be by your side."

Gilbert blushed at her words and nodded, his face glowing with warmth.

Though Gilbert’s sharp mind often made him prone to overthinking and insecurity, Leticia had already decided that she would love and protect him through all of it.

If he feared being loved or feared being left alone, she would shower him with even more love than he ever expected. Leticia’s love was boundless. He could drown in it.

"As your wife, I will accept and fulfill all of your wishes and desires. If you want to be a king, I’ll put you on the throne... but somehow, I don’t think that’s what you want."

"Yeah, I think I’d rather live in a small house and spend a peaceful life with you."

"Hehe, that sounds like it would be more trouble than sitting on a throne... but it doesn’t sound bad."

She narrowed her eyes as though envisioning their future.

"Stay with me until the end, okay?"

"...I want to stay by your side, even if I die."

"Hahaha! You’re being so dramatic, my husband! That’s exactly what makes you so adorable!"

From the outside, it might have seemed like their future was full of challenges and obstacles. However, before Leticia’s strength and Gilbert’s intellect, all of that would seem trivial. Though others might think they were a perfect match because they were opposites, they shared one undeniable common trait:

They would show no mercy to their enemies.

Together, they would overcome each challenge, supporting each other in their weaknesses, and live a life full of happiness. Surely, that was the future that awaited them.

This marks the end.

What started as a short-to-medium-length story for New Year’s ended up stretching all the way into February, but I’m glad I was able to finish it.

Since my goal was to create a strong heroine, I think I’ve at least managed to achieve that! 「laughs」
