Chapter 71: The Rude Princess Cooks
“…How could this happen…?”
I was stunned by the dreadful scene before me.
Against my will, the foul odor hit my nose, causing me to frown in disgust.
Seeing my shock, Tiara and Stayle gently touched my hem and shoulder.
“Sister… let’s calm down for a moment.”
“Sister… there’s always next time…”
Both of them spoke with a great deal of discomfort, urging me to calm down. Only their kindness truly reached me.
I forced a smile at the two of them, but I couldn’t hide my shock and tried to cover it with words.
“I’m so sorry, both of you… I didn’t expect it to be this bad.”
In front of me was a blackened, liquefied mess, and I slumped my shoulders in defeat.
The gift for the invited Prime Minister's residence. This party, organized by Prime Minister Gilbert, was truly small and personal, aimed at celebrating Maria’s recovery and showing gratitude to those who had helped. It was more like a home party than a grand celebration.
I had attended many official royal banquets and social gatherings before, but this was my first time at such a homely event in this world. Even Prime Minister Gilbert had said, “Please join us not as royalty, but as a family of my friend Albert.”
While the real reason behind the gathering was likely to express gratitude for Maria’s illness, it still meant a lot to me. Having secretly yearned for this type of home party since my reincarnation as a princess, I was genuinely delighted.
Additionally, when I asked if my maids Lotte and Marie and the guard Jack could join, Prime Minister Gilbert kindly agreed. It felt like a dream to have this kind of gathering, not as servants, but as equals with these three.
Furthermore, for the sake of my father’s security, several knights were also invited, including Arthur, who had recently joined the knight order as the top recruit. I imagine it wasn’t just for security but because they wanted Arthur there as well.
Of course, since the castle couldn’t be completely abandoned, my mother, Uncle Vest, and Vice-Captain Clark would stay behind with the other knights. Father had apparently expressed regret at not being able to meet Maria and Mother, who were close friends, which I found quite unfortunate, as I, too, would have liked to see my mother enjoying Maria’s company. In any case, I was quite excited about attending this personal home party. And I thought, as a royal, there were things I had never been able to do, and I wanted to try them. One of those things was cooking. This time, it was baking sweets, but bringing homemade food or sweets to a party is something a royal would never be allowed to do. After all, I had never even been allowed to hold a knife until now. But, since I had memories from my past life, I thought, "Why not make some sweets from my world as a creative dish? Everyone will be surprised!" I consulted Tiara and Stayle, and Stayle spoke to the head chef, who agreed to let me use the kitchen for a little while. Stayle, with his long history of making connections within the castle, was well-acquainted with the cooks.Additionally, for some reason, Stayle had also brought Arthur along, saying, “Since I was promised I’d bring him whenever something came up, I figured I’d bring him now.” Arthur, who had been resting, was now standing there by my side. With the chefs standing behind me to ensure I didn’t hurt myself, we began cooking.Since this was the castle kitchen, there was no shortage of ingredients, and I eagerly set to work creating the sweets I had imagined. I wasn’t boasting, but cooking and baking had been a quiet hobby of mine in my past life, and I was fairly confident in my skills.
And yet…
At first, thinking it had been a while and wanting to try something simple, I decided to make melon pan. But for some reason, the gooey liquid I had mixed didn’t turn into melon pan before baking, and when I baked it, it turned into blackened charcoal.
Confused, I tried again, this time opting for simple cookies. But they, too, stayed gooey and became charcoal when baked.
Thinking something was off, I tried making my specialty from my previous life—omelets. But as you can guess from the scene at the beginning, it was a complete disaster.
At this point, I was beyond terrible at cooking. I couldn’t help but think, “Is this some kind of curse?”
A sudden thought crossed my mind: was it a curse?
With an ominous feeling, I grabbed an apple nearby, holding the knife with a sense of dread. The cooks, who had just witnessed my earlier disaster, gasped when they saw me holding a blade.
I also had an incredibly bad feeling, so I focused all my energy into carefully peeling the apple. In my past life, I could easily peel apples into a long spiral.
But…
In conclusion, the peel was about an inch thick, and what fell around me were chunks of apple with the peel still attached, rather than a neat spiral. Not only did I fail to peel it beautifully, but I couldn’t even manage to peel it properly.
I stood there with my mouth hanging open in shock, silently coming to the realization.
Princess Pryde Royal Ivy, reborn as royalty, was a selfish and spoiled individual who struggled with cooking.
No, perhaps it wasn’t just cooking; maybe I was terrible at all household chores.
As a princess, I had the freedom to command others without having to perform any household chores myself. There was no way Pryde, who lived her life like that, would have been involved in such tasks.
If it weren’t for this incident, I would have never had the chance to cook. To think the completely perfect Pryde had such a glaring weakness... I was horrified as I stared at the remains of the apple and wondered how to explain my pitiful failure to Stayle and Tiara.
Suddenly, I heard a burst of laughter.
Instinctively, I turned around, and there was Arthur, who had been silently observing from behind. He was covering his mouth with one hand, looking away from me, his shoulders shaking, his face flushed red as he laughed.
“Arthur!!”
I shouted instinctively, and Arthur, still laughing, managed to say, “S-Sorry!” before bursting into laughter once again.
How cruel!! Yes, it was a shocking disaster, but it wasn’t necessary to laugh that hard!!
Just as I turned to confront Arthur, I heard more restrained laughter from behind me. I turned back in surprise to find Tiara and Stayle, who had apparently joined in Arthur’s laughter. As soon as they realized I had noticed, they couldn’t hold it back any longer and started laughing openly.
“…Sorry…! …Sorry, sis…~!”
“…I didn’t know you had such a weakness…~!!”
They were laughing so hard that they could barely form words. It was the first time I had ever seen Tiara laugh so loudly, and Stayle, too, had turned bright red from laughing.
I felt my face growing hot from embarrassment.
Observing the cooks from a distance, I could sense their struggle to control their laughter, yet it was evident that they were on the brink of erupting into laughter.
My lips trembled with frustration, and tears started to well up in my eyes. No, this was simply due to the game's setting! I know a lot of recipes from my past life, and I could cook well in my past life!! Though I was at a loss for an excuse, I wanted to say it aloud.
“…I-I’m not completely useless!!”
I cried out in a fit of frustration, then quickly knelt down in the corner of the kitchen, wrapping my arms around my knees and pretending to sulk.It was a secret I would take to the grave that I quietly cried until Tiara, Stayle, and Arthur apologized and comforted me.
